Center Docent

 Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Center Docent will assist the Center in fulfilling the Mission Statement of preserving archaeological collections to share with the public through Center Museum tours, programs, and exhibit interpretation.

General Responsibilities

    • Greet and welcome visitors upon their arrival at the Center
    • Answer general questions regarding the Center and the Mission Statement
    • Ability to interpret current exhibits and promote upcoming exhibits and programs including Second Saturday, Project Archaeology and Center community outreach events.
    • Direct administrative, research and curatorial inquiries to the appropriate departments
    • Stock gift shop inventory when needed
    • Staff gift shop when required, process donations for gift shop purchases
    • Keep newsletters, periodicals, handouts, and flyers available at sign-in desk

Qualifications

    • Ability to communicate effectively with the public
    • Ability to work independently
    • Knowledge of San Diego history and archaeology helpful
    • Minimum commitment is one four-hour shift per month
    • Computer experience preferred, Microsoft Office Applications
    • Outgoing, friendly & enthusiastic personality
